Here’s more good news!

By now most of us have had many years of experience dealing with the curve balls, or rocks, life has thrown at us, and we are still here! No small feat! But the big question is, what comes next? The truth! No one really knows …

In the pages you are about to explore on this site, we investigate the many possibilities and, yes, opportunities that life may still have in store for us. Better yet, we also offer ways and means to make the most of the unknowns that will inevitably pop up as we continue to venture forth towards or in Elderhood.

Recognizing and addressing the challenges and opportunities as they arise will be crucial to maintaining your mental and physical well-being and quality of life. After all we don’t want to just survive, but Thrive, in the years to come.

EldersThrive provides a reliable private support community where you can discuss the various opportunities and physical, emotional or financial challenges you face and learn about many of the best alternatives available to address them.

There are many ways to dissect life and all its possibilities. In the coming pages we will look at our lives through a few different lenses, to gain greater perspective. Three well know self-examination tools will be utilized, but not the variety your personal physician may be inclined to use! Our tools are more of the contemplative, even soul searching, variety. They include the Wheel of Life, or more accurately,

Your Wheel of Life, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, or Your Hierarchy of Needs and the Mind-Body-Spirit model of wellness, which we have expanded upon and call Your Box of Life. All are great tools, and you will have an opportunity to learn more about them and use them on your journey of self exploration and growth on this site.

Congratulations! Your life up until now has likely had many ups and downs. However, you made it this far, and even have the courage to continue exploring new sources of knowledge, guidance, friendship and support, like those offered here.

If you would like to learn more about our community, we are offering, for a limited time, free access. Take this opportunity to explore our EldersThrive community and the benefits it offers for absolutely no charge or commitment.

Resources and support for dealing with life’s challenges

As you approach, or have made you way into, Elderhood, you have and will continue to face new or growing challenges, such as the ones described below. This website was developed to help support you on this phase of your journey.

Loss of Loved Ones

One of the most difficult aspects of aging is the loss of family members and friends along the way. Dealing with the death of loved ones, illness, geographical separation, or growing apart can be emotionally distressing. Think of some of the special people who you have lost but once relied on, or they relied on you, for support and/or friendship. Coping with grief, loneliness and the void left behind requires a great deal of resilience and support from others. Building a strong social network can assist you in navigating these challenging times. EldersThrive was formed, and continues to evolve, to provide a trustworthy and reliable private community on an easy-to-access online platform.

Our aging bodies experience natural wear and tear, which can lead to various health issues and physical limitations. Chronic illnesses, diseases, pain and diminished mobility can become more prevalent as we age. Coping with these changes may involve adapting to new routines, seeking medical assistance, embracing healthier habits, and making necessary modifications to our living environments. Engaging in regular exercise, maintaining a healthy diet, and attending regular medical check-ups can help mitigate some of the physical challenges associated with aging. EldersThrive’s Elderwise Journal was created to discuss the various physical and emotional challenges you might face, to be a source of encouragement and help you evaluate the alternatives available to address them. We also point out where some of the best health, nutrition and longevity online resources can be found.

Cognitive Decline and Mental Health

Another challenge of aging is the potential decline in cognitive abilities, which can manifest as minor memory loss, depression, loneliness, anxiety, or even dementia. These changes can impact daily functioning and overall well-being. Engaging in mentally stimulating activities and social connections, practicing mindfulness and stress reduction techniques, and seeking group or professional assistance when necessary are vital for maintaining your mental health. Early detection and treatment of cognitive disorders are crucial, as they can significantly improve the quality of life for you and, if required, your caregivers. EldersThrive’s Caring Connections section was designed to provide a private forum where members, we call ourselves Thrivers, can discuss any issues we are dealing with, ask questions, share suggestions and ideas, explore loneliness solutions with fellow Thrivers and receive mentoring and resources, when required.

Retirement and Financial Transitions:

The transition from the workforce due to illness, retirement, or selling or loss of a business can also present significant financial challenges. Fixed pensions and lower interest rates on savings can make it difficult to maintain the same standard of living as inflation continues to rise. Planning for retirement and seeking expert financial advice can help you navigate this stage. Unfortunately, some financial institutions or their advisors, have their own financial wellbeing as a priority, rather than their clients’! Diversifying income streams, exploring reliable investment options, and following a realistic budget can contribute to your financial stability and a smoother transition into retirement.

EldersThrive was developed to provide you with the ideas, insights and guidance you need to make prudent and beneficial financial decisions and learn better alternatives to enhance your financial well-being and security.
